Thanks Sue, felt that they needed a bit of oomph! Roast chestnuts remind me of my teenage years, stopping to buy a packet from the guy outside Wakefield bus station on my way home from the Mecca 🙂
Picked up fallen horse chestnuts on recent walk. They resemble these spikes but leaves are very different. Inside nut looks like a big acorn. I love this discovery part of autumn.
Conker fights were a thing of my childhood, sadly schools became far too PC in recent years and banned them from the playgrounds, but we had huge fun trying to be the winner! I often wonder what damage is being done to our children these days, they don’t seem to have half the freedom and fun that we had for free.
They don’t. We’ve sucked the mischief and spontaneity right out of them. I feel like we were all sleeping ( working) while the PC Nazis ran amok and now we can’t stop the deluge. The latest here is California universities are essentially banning literature AND speech if ANYONE says it makes them uncomfortable.
Yet tv shows are all about kids dissing each other and adults acting like immature assholes. THAT makes me uncomfortable 🙂
Ok rant over. But don’t let the season pass without one good conker fight!!
Sounds like a post Sammy! And don’t get me started about reality TV – though to be honest I never watch any, just catch trailers sometimes and that is bad enough. In fact i think there will be a time in the not too distant future when I stop watching TV altogether.
Love the way you have “photo shopped” this lovely photo Jude. Was it 4 different photos or have you cut and rearranged the one photo? It is very effective. Yes my school days were dominated with conker fights and how proud you felt to have a King Conker… and I loved when my Mam brought home chestnuts and we roasted them on a shovel over the fire embers, then dipped them in salt. Sadly no open fires are now allowed only have gas heating or kerosene heaters. Such good memories you have stirred up.
One photo, re-arranged into four – dead simple! I used it once before: http://wp.me/pL2aa-qj
I love an open fire! Don’t recall roasting chestnuts over one, but I do remember making toast with a long-handled fork. Are you back home now?
I popped over and saw your flamingos art work Jude, I must have a go with that technique, I love it. I had one of those long handled forks with us when we were travelling in Matilda, great to use over a camp fire. 🙂
Interesting framing, Jude. And sweet chestnuts are so redolent of autumn for me….memories of picking and roasting in the past. 🙂

That’s two of us getting nostalgic!!
Reblogged this on Festival of Leaves.
Well, this is a cool idea, Jude! A creative collection of these photos. Beautiful!
Thanks for taking part, enjoy your week xx

Horse chestnuts and conker fights are another part of my childhood! These sweet chestnuts are smaller, but edible!
Jude, I’ve never eaten a chestnut or heard of a conker fight 🙂 love it!

I’ll go and look for some conkers tomorrow 😀
Yeah, I try (mostly) not to post about stuff that gets my blood pressure up – idiot celebrities and politics 🙂
That’s why I love the serenity if blogs and friends like you 🙂
I like it, Jude 🙂 Fragmenting it like this does give it oomph!
Thanks to Photoshop!
They just have to be stroked don’t they?
Aren’t they spiky though Gilly?

Great for toasting marshmallows too 🙂
Oh yes 🙂
BTW we are home now but still have some posts to do on the house sit area as the internet connection was so slow I gave up on it… 😦
I know what that is like – in our holiday let last year the connection was dreadfully slow. Makes writing a post or even commenting painful.
