Flowers in Australia: 13

Flannel Flower / Actinotus helianthi

The flower is the tiny bunch in the centre – the ‘petals’ surrounding this are bracts. The Flannel Flower seeds were ground into paste to be eaten either raw or cooked. They were even placed inside babies paperbark nappies for a soft lining and left for the seeds to grow where the nappies were discarded.
