Had some very tasty gluten free pork and leek sausages to celebrate the 1/4 Welsh in my OH (who happens to be called David and his mother is convinced he is a saint… ] ๐
Well, I don’t think we are quite there yet! And March has definitely roared in like a lion! According to astronomers spring begins this year on March 20th and ends on 21st June. In Cornwall they monitor seven Champion Magnolia campbellii trees to see exactly when they bloom. When all seven trees have at least 50 blooms spring will have arrived in Cornwall ๐
Our seasons begin on the first of the month, so 1st March was our first day of Autumn. You wouldn’t know it though, with days of 30+ degrees forecast all this week.
That’s an interesting story about the Magnolia trees blooming. I hope spring arrives soon for you.
meteorological spring begins on 1 March every year and ends on 31 May, allowing weather forecasters to accurately make comparisons between different springs.
The dates I am used to uses the astronomicalseasons, based on the solstices and equinoxes that occur around the year. So this year it starts on 20th March. Last year it was 19th March.
I must have missed when it changed to using the meteorological meaning!
Anyway, today is bright and sunny and windy (though it did try and snow early on). Bring on the lighter evenings! I can’t wait for the clocks to spring forward ๐
Those temps are higher than our summer! You guys are getting hotter and hotter – soon Australia will burn up! Then you’ll all have to move to New Zealand or Tasmania ๐ ๐
Yes, I heard not long ago that January was our hottest month, this summer was our hottest and last year was the hottest on record. I love summer so I think I will stay put. NZ and Tassie are amazing to visit but I think the cold weather would put paid to me!
You are obviously a hot weather person! I’d be indoors all summer in that heat ๐ฆ
Jude – I’ve loved daffodils since I was a youngster and Mom planted them next to our side fence. Ever since they’ve been my harbinger of spring. And I’ll be damned if I can get even two bulbs to blossom no matter how many gardens I’ve tried them in ๐
Just buy them when flowering ๐
I’m not sure I have any growing this year either as I emptied all my pots last year and then just threw a whole load of bulbs back in them before I headed off to Australia at the beginning of November. I shall keep you posted as I have seen some signs of life, but what life I haven’t a clue!
Good solution! LOL once Mom asked my sister how she kept her indoor plants so healthy. Sis laughed and said “I toss ’em when they get scraggly and buy new ones”๐๐ท๐น
Lovely, Jude! Beats a leek any day! (I love to eat leeks, but I don’t consider them photogenic) ๐

GF pork and leek sounds good – from your local butcher?? Loved the bit about the Saint!
One of our local butchers. We are fortunate enough to have three! But I tend to use just two of them.
I think you are in foodie heaven, with three butchers.
Good job I’m not a veggie now!!
Yay!
Happy Spring!

That is interesting. I always wondered why it was different. Is it a northern hemisphere thing?
Today it was 28 degrees and we are expecting at least 30 degrees every day for the rest of the week.

I like her thinking ๐
Lovely color to bring in March Jude. Thank you for the sunshine. ๐
Sunshine today Sue – sending some your way (not all, I want to keep some for myself) ๐
I appreciate some Jude. Heading out to shovel the walks. ๐
Happy March and happy spring, here we go ๐
Oh, yes Gilly, my favourite season…
Great photos Jude – almost as beautiful as grandchildren. With a bit of luck I’ll score an Australian spring in six months!
And a European summer?
I’ll be here again for the whole of May and the start of June. No idea what season! I’m confused.
End of spring, start of summer – possibly the best time to be in Europe ๐
I shall enjoy seeing Warsaw in the sun!
Thanks for posting Jude, brought a smile to my belated Dydd Dewi Sant.Dyddiau hapus ๐
Daffodils really do speak of spring, don’t they. They just get my heart all aflutter! ๐
