Cut-leaf crabapple

Malus transitoria, the cut-leaved crab apple (photographed at RHS Wisley)

Malus transitoria, the cut-leaf crabapple, on account of the shape of its leaves, comes from north-western China. It features a mass of tiny white flowers borne in spring, followed by dense clusters of small yellow fruitlets in the autumn. The autumn leaf colours are particularly pronounced in this species.

    • Not sure Sue. I think they are, but like all crabapples they are very bitter; this one is mainly grown for the colour and of course birds love the fruits (they are very small fruits like cherries)
