Friday Fountain Challenge: May

Kiftsgate Gardens in the Cotswolds is a beautiful tranquil place, with a soft, feminine planting scheme devised over three generations of women gardeners. And I was very taken by this simple portrait fountain placed on an old stone, lichen-covered wall. Click on the link above to read more about this garden.

if you’d like to join in with the fountain challenge then please pop over to Polianthus for the rules. This month she is looking for fountains featuring people or animals. I’m sure she would love to see you.

Jude the face is so beautiful. Do you suppose someone has kept the lichen off of her? It’s as if she has flowers in her hair.

    1. Heyjude says:

It does look like that doesn’t it? Maybe the stone is too smooth on her face.

  2. Ana O says:

    So beautiful in its simplicity.

  3. polianthus says:

Such a beautiful fountain, Sue is right, it is like the figure has flower in her hair, wonderful find and I must put this garden on my bucket list too

    1. Heyjude says:

It is a delightful garden and only 5 minutes walk from Hidcote so you can do both in one day πŸ™‚

      1. polianthus says:

ah now that sounds perfect! thanks Jude

  4. Lucid Gypsy says:

She looks lovely with her golden highlights!

    1. Heyjude says:

Yes, the lichens really do add something to this one.

  5. Such a tranquil face she has. Lovely fountain, Jude. πŸ™‚

  6. She does look very serene.

  7. pommepal says:

Gentle and artistic with the yellow lichen framing her face.

  8. Went out fountain hunting at 5am yesterday. The one I was after was not fountaining. This one is compensation. It’s a beauty and those spears of green are a gift to the composition.

    1. Heyjude says:

5 am? Goodness you are up early! I wake around that time as it gets light and the birds start to sing, but I just turn over and go back to sleep. Maybe I should get up and go exploring.

      1. I usually don’t go out, but as it gets hotter that’ll be my preferred time.

        1. Heyjude says:

I’m not good in the heat either and it doesn’t take much to knock me out! My garden faces west so has sun all afternoon so I need to work in the morning before it gets too hot.

  9. Robyn Haynes says:

Lovely as usual. I wonder what symbolism lies behind the water coming from her mouth rather than a vessel she might hold?

    1. Heyjude says:

I think it is just a common way of getting the spout out of a head. A simple ‘on the wall’ fountain.

      1. Emilio Pasquale says:

I always have this problem with women. They seem to drool every time I walk by. Great photo. I love how the lichen highlight and frame her face.

    She is fabulous, Jude! πŸ™‚
Happy weekend! Mine is blighted. You will know why.

    1. Heyjude says:

Oh, no! We have a rush of visitors this weekend. It is sure to be noisy, busy and exhausting, but so lovely to see family again πŸ™‚

      1. restlessjo says:

Okey doke- enjoy! I hadn’t seen this when I replied to you earlier. First family to see the new home? What fun! πŸ™‚

        1. Heyjude says:

A rash of visitors this week. An old friend of the OH visiting Cornwall from Canada came over yesterday, the Surrey tribe arrived today and my stepdaughter and partner come in a fortnight! Gulp!

        2. restlessjo says:

          Carry on cooking! πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

        3. Heyjude says:

it’s a bit of a challenge going from cooking for two to cooking for seven! We may eat out a lot…

        4. restlessjo says:

There were only 6 of us at my Girl’s night last night so we had leftovers today. Just back from a 40th wedding anniversary do. Chilling the rest of the weekend. Phew! πŸ™‚

        5. Heyjude says:

          Socialising is quite exhausting!

  11. Debra says:

I truly love this fountain, and the garden itself if very special! Beautiful, Jude!

    1. Heyjude says:

Thanks Debra, I agree it is a very pretty garden.

  12. Sherri says:

I need to revisit the Cotswolds, not so far from us really. I’ve never heard of Kiftsgate gardens, sounds beautiful, really lovely. Your photo is so lovely Jude, I love the composition… fountains like this fascinate me…
