Friday Fountain Challenge: July

Montreux-(1)

A slight change of location, but still in Switzerland, this lovely old (1848) stone fountain is in Montreux. I love the way the Swiss decorate their drinking fountains with floral displays. These may only be the humble begonia, but it looks like a lovely Easter bonnet.

If you’d like to join in with the fountain challenge then please pop over to Polianthus for the rules

This month she is looking for stone fountains. I’m sure she would love to see you.

    A lovely splash of nature!

  2. So gorgeous, Jude. I love its beautiful hat. 🙂

  3. Sue Slaght says:

That would make a beautiful hat. 🙂 Possibly a bit heavy. I’m thinking this fountain has seen a lot of different flowers in it’s years.

Maybe so. Love the colours on this one 🙂

Humble begonias but they bring the fountain to life!

Great fountain Jude – love the flowers, you are right a lot of the Swiss fountains have flowers on them, come to think of it haven’t seen that in other countries :)!

  6. Anabel Marsh says:

Very beautiful – the fountain would not be nearly so attractive without its flowery topping.

There’s something reassuring about ancient stone. I love its permanence. This one, in its form as a fountain and combined with the begonias is lovely.

  8. I love this Jude! We adored all the floral displays when we were in Switzerland too – I remember some superb ones on the lake front at Weggis on Lake Lucerne 🙂 We did a day trip once to Montreux and had lunch by the lake – the colours of the flowers were gorgeous. I wish we’d seen this old stone fountain whilst we were there too!

The flowers along the promenade at Montreux were exceptional. We were there in late September and it was marvellous. Switzerland is a beautiful country, just a tad expensive!

      1. I know it is pricey – we have been there several times and it is so beautiful. We’ve always been there in spring – one day hope to go in the autumn!

It is a stunning fountain! Love it!

A splash of colour will liven up anything – even an old, weathered fountain. I can’t help but wonder if it used to sport a statue at some time, but the flowers are a pretty alternative 🙂
