Another hoverfly this time visiting a self-seeded parsley plant which I think looks lovely when in flower. I hope to collect some of the seeds and scatter them in the herb garden where hopefully they will emerge next spring.

Such a fine macro – and what a pretty pairing with parsley flower (never appreciated the diminutive blooms until this close-up)
p.s. Since macro is a forte of yours you might like to id the hoverfly
I think it’s a male (eyes meet at top of head) Episyrphus balteatus (marmalade fly) – good image checklist here
Thanks for that. I have had a look at the list and there are several that it could be, but I rather like your choice of a Marmalade fly!
What a cracker of a shot, Jude.. Superb detail.
Shame the fly got in the way.

Love this. Bugs and bees make such a great addition to any macro, don’t they? The plant is beautiful. Your garden will look lovely. I’ll have to find a good one to post today. π
You’ve been saving this one. It’s gorgeous! π π
Our Boston Ivy has just started to develop tiny flowers. Never known it to happen before?
Now I shall have to look up Boston Ivy – it’s not the same as Virginia Creeper is it? Ours was developing buds before we left. As was a rose!
I was calling it VC until Mick corrected me the other day, so yes- or very similar π
Lovely capture, Jude!
Thank you Sue. Love this lens.
Way to go!
Wonderful macro, Jude! π
Thanks Sylvia. I love catching the little beasties…
It is so true, our mother earth laughs in flowers…
What a superb shot: those translucent – or is it transparent? – wings!
I’d say transparent, but translucent sounds better π
Another lovely photo, Jude. I’m pleased you said this was a hoverfly. I would have thought it was a bee. I learn something new every day.
I thought they were bees too until Ark corrected me; there are a LOT of hoverflies.
I must take more notice now. I really like your big fat furry bees.
Big fat ones, small fat ones… takes all sorts π
What a clear and lovely picture… π
Thanks!
Beautiful and crisp shot !
Thank you π
These are fantastic close-ups, Jude. I love the parsley flower as the backdrop. And, I’ve learned about a hoverfly.
This is a great photo – you are very skillful with your macro lens. The colours in the picture are lovely too.
that’s very nice of you Elaine. I like using this lens, but still practising
Never thought much of dill but it found its perfect place in your picture and served its purpose – attracted the hoverfly. Now everyone is happy!
Isn’t it a miracle how such delicate wings can fly?
Magic! How was Barca and the hotel? My daughter has booked the same one so please email me all the tips you have for getting around π
Will do and if you email me your address I’ve kept some maps etc that might be useful π
Okey dokey, will do π
Hurrah for hover flies: a pretty portrait perched on parsley.
By the way, in Texas we have a native parsley but it’s not edible, or at least not palatableβI tasted a bit once.

Lovely colour though π
π
your photos are very beautiful…
HeyJude remember me “the Beatles!”
many regards
Many thanks Antonio π
The hoverfly looks like its dancing, when its in the flowers. Youve done a great job with these photos.
Thank you π
No problem. Thanks for responding.
