This collection is from Sarah Raven and called the Scented Copper Tulip Collection – includes tulips ‘Ballerina’ (very highly scented), ‘Bruine Wimpel’ (lightly scented), ‘Sarah Raven’ (unscented) and Tulip whittallii (highly scented).
I’m not sure about the scent, I shall have to get a bit closer to them, but the colours are fabulous and in the sunshine they glow like stained-glass lanterns and I particularly love the shape of the lily-flowered goblets in deep damson.
There are some there I’ve never seen before. Magnificent!
A beautiful collection.
Beauty – and knowledge too!
Easy when it comes from the website! And I have had a sniff. The Ballerina ones smell like tangerines, the Bruine Wimpel has a fragrance, but I can’t identify it.
You did have fun with them! 🙂 🙂 And they’re very lovely. I can see why you would enjoy faffing about 🙂
I’m enjoying these beautiful tulip posts so much. I’ve read articles about Sarah Raven and her beautiful garden work in Country Living magazine. Your photos really do these beautiful flowers justice, Jude.
I got bulbs from elsewhere too, but hers have been the best and the biggest flowers.
More marvels!
Stunning . . . never really think of tulips being scented albeit once made it to the Netherlands for one of their flower festival and do just about remember a lovely smell!
A very subtle fragrance, but the Ballerina is quite definitely orange blossom.
I love orange blossom . . . so will certainly look out Ballerina this Autumn 🙂 that way if I happen not to be ‘gallivanting’ out here next spring I will still be able to enjoy the smell of orange blossom back home
Beautiful, breath takingly gorgeous! Love Love Tulips! Maybe I am descended from those who lived during Tulip fever days in The Netherlands?
Thanks for posting!
Ah another tulip obsessive 😀
I could say Tulip Tragic!! LOL!!
You can never have too many tulips, though it is cheaper to visit a garden that has mass planting!
They don’t grow where i live, ( too warm) so I have to cope with purchased blooms in a vase! To me, Keukenhof in bloom is like paradise!
Marvellous colours and variety, Jude. I can understand why you are so smitten with them. Had a visit to Kew gardens and what a spring show. Just loved the peonies, irises and tulips, galore.
I love peonies too and irises. I have irises but think it is too windy here for the peonies.
I didn’t even know that tulips have fragrance, but then I’ve never grown them.
You haven’t? Not a fan? Not many are scented and it is very subtle, the Ballerina is very like orange blossom. I may get some citrus trees for the conservatory eventually. Buying plants is not cheap!!
