Plant Focus

My final tulip offering is ‘Prinses / Princess Irene which is the exotic colour of a sunset. Electric orange and stripes of violet and rust make this one of the most exciting tulips I grew this year. It is long-lasting and contrasts beautifully with a very dark tulip such as ‘Paul Scherer’ or ‘Havran’. They seem to glow in the sun and look fantastic in pots.

  1. That header is beautiful, and so’s the photo that catches every last detail. You’ve painted your garden with tulips. (Mind you, there are as many “last tulips” as Nellie Melba “last concerts” –
an eight year long string of ‘final concerts’)

    • Haha… too true. I did think of one LAST last tulip – the very dark one in the front courtyard which is almost black now, but enough is enough!! Next year perhaps πŸ™‚ And now I need to ‘paint’ the garden with more colour as it is somewhat diminished since the tulips have gone 😦

  2. Oh your header photo is stunning but I’m also loving the other two. What a way to finish your tulip extravaganza πŸ˜€

    • Thanks Becky, glad you enjoyed the spectacle! This (and many of the others actually) changed colours as it matured so two flowers were never the same and possibly (my excuse) the reason I took so many photos!

  3. Missed this! You sneak one past me sometimes. πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚ Becky’s right- fab header. There were a few still glorious tulips up at Belsay today but then it’s much further north.

    • Mine are all gone except the remains of a few black ones in the courtyard, now they have been going for months!! In a strop now because I nipped outside yesterday to check my veggie bed and discovered the rotten slugs have totally eaten most of the things I planted before I got ill. Haven’t the strength to deal with the garden at the moment, but it is disheartening.
