In the period leading to Christmas some people buy an Advent Calendar to check off each day before December 25. Usually intended for children, it appears that in recent years there has been a rise in the popularity of luxury ones aimed at indulgent adults who feel the necessity to treat themselves on the run-up to the big day itself β from expensive candles and perfume to miniature bottles of Prosecco or Whisky and even chunks of cheese.
So I thought to balance all this extravaganza I would offer you an alternative in the form of a flower a day fromΒ Sunday 3rd December until Sunday 24th December.

Beautifully delicate, Jude. π π My turn for a Christmas lunch today. Out with ‘the lasses’- 8 of us so I won’t get a word in edgeways. π Can’t remember what I’ve ordered to eat but it won’t be turkey.
Not get a word in edgewise/ways? Goodness, they must be a chattering lot then…. π
They are, but I held my own. π π
I’m sure you did. So what did you end up eating if not turkey?
Some very nice bruschetta with feta and tomato chutney and chicken bellini (a sauce of mushroom and peppers). Too near Christmas for traditional and it was an Italian restaurant π π
Sounds yummy π No pudding?
No, I can’t usually manage 3 courses, especially on a lunchtime. It was more about having a good catch up. One of the girls has lost 2 sisters in 3 months and it was her 70th this week. A party was planned but in the circumstances… Lots of hugs π
I usually forego a starter in the hope that I might be able to squeeze in a pudding. Your friend has had it tough… π¦
Continuing to enjoy your alternative Advent, Jude. Best wishes for Christmas and 2018, Ken π
And to you and yours Ken. Enjoy the sunshine!!
Your advent is a perfect Jude, giving us all moments of joy and peace in the mad rush. I’m off for more peace hopefully today, taking Mum to Hillier’s Arboretum. Fingers crossed everyone is shopping or at home and not in the gardens!!
I suspect the gardens will be quiet. What a nice way to spend the day.
It was busier than I expected – we got there 10minutes after it opened and already 20 cars. However fortunately most were families and so they went off following the Christmas treasure trail, and Mum and I had the winter garden to ourselves.
Beautiful – photos to follow in January π
Sounds good π
I’m rather keen on salvias but I think this is a new one to me, although I have the memory of an ant so who knows!
It is a very popular one at present. I might squeeze one into my tiny plot this year. Can’t wait to visit the nurseries… π
