Macro Monday #97

This bee couldn’t decide which flower to go for so ended up straddling two pretty blue Salvia plants.

Always wonder what they are thinking!

Great picture. Did you take it?

    1. Heyjude says:

Landed right in front of me so I was almost obliged to 🙂

  3. Chris says:

Love the incredible pictures. What camera do you use? It does a great job

    1. Heyjude says:

Thank you Chris. I use an Olympus E-10 with various lenses.

Thank you. Love the pictures it takes

Me too! I wanted a macro lens so had to buy a camera with interchangeable lenses and this one is still very light to carry.

Love it! I’m just amusing myself with the thought of the bee’s dilemma should the blooms start moving apart.

    Lovely photo.

Is that its tongue sticking out like? I’ve never seen that before. I guess our bees are more decisive.

    1. Heyjude says:

It is very long isn’t it? I found this on Wikipedia:
“Proboscis extension reflex (PER) is the extension by an insect with an extendable proboscis (e.g. a bee or fly) of her proboscis (sticking out of her tongue) as a reflex to antennal stimulation. It is evoked when a sugar solution is touched to a bee’s antenna.”

Thanks for that. What a useful thing to have. Although perhaps not in soft-drink consuming humans (the messy kind anyway).

Beautiful photo… bees are so wonderful 😍

    1. Heyjude says:

They are fascinating to watch. Thank you.

I spent more time than I should have chasing bees through a field of rosemary last weekend. My lens isn’t a macro though, and the results were underwhelming. I’m impressed by your results, especially using old-tech like an Olympus E-10. Keep it up!

    1. Heyjude says:

Ah, they are not always so obliging that’s for sure.

    Keeping its options open 🙂

  10. That is a great capture Jude! I had quite some fun trying to capture some bees with my camera during the July summer. They are quite tricky and you have captured him in great detail.

    1. Heyjude says:

      He was most obliging Janaline.

This is soooo cool! And the photograph is beautiful.
