In April I’m looking for Macros or Close-ups in the Garden
(This month I want to see Macro photography or close-ups of anything you’d find in a garden – so look out for unusual details) If you would like some tips then please visit my first post of the month.
Common Drone Fly – Eristalis tenax
This stocky hoverfly is the commonest ‘drone’ fly, so called because they mimic bee drones (male hive bees). Thanks to Ark, yet again for identifying this one – to me they all look like bees!
(it is worth clicking on full size when you view these images in the gallery)

Really great macros, Jude. Stunning detail. Here’s my orchid in all its glory: https://anotherday2paradise.wordpress.com/2016/04/17/my-sunday-photo-pretty-in-pink/
I’ll be out in garden with macro as soon as temperature gets into double figures! 😊
A drone fly methinks – name of Eristalis, maybe? Lovely shots.
I don’t know how you do it, but yes I do believe you are right. AGAIN!
I wonder if I have any photos of real bees
Thanks Ark 🙂
I would have been as much in the dark a short while ago.
I joined several FB groups and soon I learned a whole heap of interesting stuff.
As for bees: There are five species I have cataloged that visit our spot.
You probably have as many, if not more, where you are.
Oh how fabulous. Love this little trio. Colours, composition, sharpness, all wonderful.
I love trying to catch a shot of a bee at work.
Me too!
Hope you like his one … 🙂

yours are beautiful! I’m just learning how to do “close ups” here’s my try https://dailymusing57.wordpress.com/2016/04/17/april-macros-in-the-garden/
Well getting close to flowers has been my passion, the insect photos are a real bonus! So often I found it easier to get a close-up with a zoom but I wasn’t getting the sharpness I wanted, so hence the macro lens.
Wonderful close ups of these busy wee ones.
Macro is not my strong suit but I love a good macro. These closeups are goregeous.
I am a beginner in the macro world, it is not easy controlling this lens, but it is fun learning.
