Polianthus so enjoyed the bench challenge she decided to open up her own challenge this year, in the form of fountains. She is running a monthly theme and I hope that this one is acceptable for ‘in a garden‘ this month. Though it obviously isn’t natural, I found this one in a lovely courtyard garden in the suburb of Carouge in Geneva, Switzerland. In fact I found a lot of fountains in Geneva which I hope to share with you throughout the year. And I am sure that Poli would love to see what fountains you have managed to capture during your travels. Please join in.
This is a beautiful fountain. Very regal.
There are some unusual fountains (especially the spout) in Geneva. I got quite carried away with them!
This fountain looks cooling – just what I need just now as I am sitting by a sunny window and feeling quite warm (not that I am complaining really!). 🙂
It was very welcome at the time Elaine as it was a very warm day (for late September) and all the water is drinkable.
Nice find, Jude….I may have to go to Villa d’Este for mine….
She is running different themes each month. I already have one ear-marked for the stately/fancy fountain 😉
I’m guessing Villa d’Este is in a garden? Sounds French.
In an Italian garden, in the vicinity of Rome
I’d love to do a tour of Italian Gardens.
And I would like to return, and visit more…we went by ourselves but to get entry to some you have to go with a group, eg Brightwater…prices beyond my pocket now
I think it may have been Brightwater that I was thinking of. Might be worth it for a special birthday 😉
You have one close??y
OH will be 70 in three years – might give us time to save up!
Wouldn’t it be a great thing to do!!
Take me with you, Sue! 🙂
Tee hee, time travel as I went a few years ago….
I know! 😦 I’ve only been with Monty Don 🙂
A good Virtual guide!
Ooh, I was there with him too!
That’s a bit posh isn’t it?
Perhaps!! 😀
Hi sue would love to see it!
Me too! 🙂 🙂
Ah, fountains…. something else to get obsessive about 🙂 Nice one, Jude!
Blame Polianthus for this one. A nice way to finally share my fountains 🙂
I’ve already been and taken her to task! 🙂
I don’t know of many fountains at all so I’d struggle with that. love yours though and look forward to seeing some more!
Mmm… not sure I have very many from the UK. I do have a spectacular one for later in the year, and I suppose there may well be fountains in some NT gardens and other stately homes. I remember Jo posting one or two from Chatsworth.
In Exeter there’s a roundabout called the fountain, well planted but I don’t know old enough to remember seeing it there 😦
Aha. This reminds me that I’d decided to pursue fountains in Poland this time. This one is a beauty: I look forward to more Swiss ones.
And I look forward to seeing Polish varieties 🙂
Such a lovely fountain, Jude. Did you drink from it?
I did fill my water bottle Sylvia, it was a surprisingly warm day for late September in Switzerland, apparently they had just had a heatwave!
Sounds idyllic, Jude. 😘
it was a lovely visit and we went on to Montreux for my birthday/wedding anni for a long weekend which was perfect. I was an au pair in Geneva when I was 18 so it was interesting to go back.
Sounds very romantic. ❤
We don’t really do romantic, but it was really good. Stayed in an old hotel right on the lake with a tiny balcony overlooking the promenade and the lake and the mountains (when the fog finally lifted). I must write a post or two about that trip.
Ooh, fountains *thinks*
You got some? Love to see them 😉
Maybe a few, but I’ll also be looking out for them now.
Wow…your header photo is stunning, and then to see it as part of the whole of the fountain really surprised me…I had no idea at first what it was! I love fountains too. Oh I wish I had the time to take part in all these wonderful photograph challenges. I didn’t even get a post out this week 😦 I hope the packing is going well Jude. I’ll be in touch… and Happy Mothering Sunday to you 🙂 xx
Thanks Sherri. I loved the spouts in Geneva. Wait and see what else I found! And I am guessing you will be with all your chicks on Sunday? Mine will be with me in thought (I hope!), but I wish all mothers everywhere a relaxing day.
Ooooh…sounds intriguing! I’ll keep an eye out 🙂 My chicks won’t be home until next weekend, so we’ll celebrate then, as it’s hubby’s birthday next week and our 10th wedding anniversary the week after, so we’ll be doing the lot, ha! Ahh…I’m sure your lovely brood will not only be thinking of you but will send you lots of lovely cards and flowers. I remember last year you were so happy to get some tulips ❤ Thank you Jude…same to you, really hoping you can take some time out from the frenzied packing… xx
Fancy you remembering the tulips! Got a cherry tree this year – very teeny – for the new garden. Hope it survives the next few weeks!
Oh dear Jude what a gorgeous fountain, love the spout – makes me want to get om a train down to Geneva! Thanks for posting 🙂
I took rather a lot of fountain shots in Switzerland. I have one or two I am dying to share with you when the right month arrives 🙂
Perfect 🙂 cannot wait! We do love our fountains here 🙂
