Short ones, tall ones, in beds or in containers, from lemon yellow to deep red – there’s such variety to be found in sunflowers. Don’t miss the display and container-grown trial in the Hilltop Borders and look out for the turf art in the grass in between. There was even a ‘People’s Choice’
So which one gets your vote?
Nalinki at Angles and Views has started #flowersoverflowers where we can share our favourite blossoms of the week. It seems like a good idea to spread some blooms across the Internet. I am more than happy to join in.
Breataking, Jude, as they reflect golden sunlight from every petal. I love the ones with rust colors, but your Munchkin photo gets my vote. I don’t know how you shoot into the light without washing out the color, and beyond that the petals themselves are nearly translucent. I’m no judge but this one is a ribbon contender!
I wonder what color yellows artists would call these . They exude warmth and energy.
Thanks Sammy. The new camera seems to cope well with the contrasts and I wanted to capture that translucency. My favourite is the Rio Carnival, I just love that combination of red and yellow, like a giant Helenium!
Putting all of them in an array like this is such a vibrant display. I have a new appreciation for the smaller varieties on my walks because of the ways you’ve been featuring them in your posts.
They are all beauties, I think its munchkin and suntastic for me, depending on the size 🙂
Munchkin was quite a big one, the suntastic one medium sized. There are so many different sunflowers and the nice thing about them is that the bees love them all!
I didn’t know there were so many varieties of sunflower. Aren’t they gorgeous. And that grass in your header…wow. It’s so thick and lush, quite unlike our wintery brown lawn.
The grass ‘carvings’ were unusual, there were several areas in the grounds where this had been done in relation to the surroundings.
I love the header, and I love sunflowers. Last sighted here in a vase at the pension office. Favourite? The one with bees.
The bees were everywhere! I love photographing sunflowers 🙂
Love this post Jude, sunflowers are my favourite of favourites in the flower world I think Rio Carnival just says sunshine to me, but I do love them all.
Rio for me too, but the rest are lovely, though a lot had already gone over when I took these. I must remember to look up the peoples’ choice.
Sunflowers are my favourite flower ever. Fabulous colours, wonderful light, just fantastic!
Glad to make you happy Sue, that was a lovely sunny day and sunflowers always look so cheery.
Rio Carnival is stunning. The petals look like flames coming from the sun.
Don’t they just!
I love the Teddy Bear one! I had no idea sunflowers could look like that. What a cheerful display this must be to visit.
The only problem with the Teddy Bear is that it is not so attractive to the bees. But it is so fluffy looking!
Another vote for Teddy Bear – have never seen it before or perhaps, just never noticed one. 🙂
Definitely an unusual variety. I shall be interested to know what the people’s choice is.
“I just want to be your te-eddy bear” 🙂 🙂 And may I see the grass, please?
Grass is the header!
I did notice that as I scrolled back. 😦 Got any more shots?
No. It was very hard to photograph. Need to hang above it somehow!
